Interclub Division 1 teams recap (2/4/10 matches) - Friday, February 05, 2010

Martins Men's Team #1 @ Philly Cricket

Solid win for Team #1 this week against Philly Cricket.  Scott Falatek and Gregg Frigerio remain undefeated for the season.  Dan Greenwood and Aidan Bush pulled out a big third set win and John Kemmerer and Greg Donches won all three sets.   Even after being hospitalized after last week’s matches Dan Wheeler was on the court with partner Skip LaSpina.   Although they did not win, Dan made it through with just a little discomfort from the side effects of the waxing he endured when hospitalized.   Team #1 remains in second place behind Waynesborough #1 (they lost last night  to Overbrook) so we are only 1.5 points back.  The next two weeks we play both Waynesborough teams away, what’s the deal with all these matches being away.? It will be sweet when we take them down on their courts on our journey to the championship.

All matches were played at 7:00 so as soon as we were finished we started working the phones to see how our D1  Team #2 teammates were doing against Kennett Square.  See Below

Martins Men's Team #2 @ Kennett Square

Can you say must win.  A loss would have ended any hopes of Martin’s having two Division 1 teams next year.  We won three courts to one and live to fight on.  Great job everyone.  Paul Nofer and Fazel Syed won at #1 position setting the stage for the rest of the team to come up big.  Carter Devol and Brian Aguilar lost a tough match one set to two.  Jim Small and Tim Ross had split the first two sets and were trailing in the third but came back and won for a key win.  Jay Siefried and Mike Dooley split sets as well but pulled out the third for the three courts to one team win.   Awesome.

If anyone wants to check who our teams played against go to Maptapaddle.com and go under scores.  Not all scores have been posted as of this writing.

Fo!lowers of the Fantastic Four (MD4) - Wednesday, February 03, 2010

Dismaying loss to the Team of  "W"  essentially denies our reaching the land of Gold and Silver in our first year at D-4..  Our hard-fought loss by sets to this team of too many courts and so many pro's will now require two David's to slew the "wanna be" D-4 Goliath of "W" in the upcoming weeks for us to reach the land of Silver.  Gold is out of the question this year as Kennett -3 (the "true" Goliath) has essentially locked it up.
Noting the scores below will make you appreciate, as we agonize, that this fantastic game turns on points since every team, aside from the "on the edge of greatness" Seneca/Ramsey duo, noted only 3-4 points or hits when a set either went their way or got away.
Do not worry or pity we of the MD-D4. Our hearts may be momentarily broken, but our paddles remain sharpened to battle through the end of the inter-club season and to challenge any MD team of the smaller numbers that slips, or dares to step away from their long-established rung.

The Basic Facts:
#1   Bob Riske/Bill McKinney      (4-6; 5-7; 5-7)
#2   Pete Seneca/Steve Ramsey  (7-5; 6-2; 6-2)
#3   Hans Hermans Jr./Tom Hermans  (4-6; 6-7; 6-7)
#4   Hans Hermans Sr./Jim Piasecki   (6-7; 7-6; 6-4)

Located in Wayne, PA, The Martin's Dam Club is a very relaxing place with many athletic and social activities available to its members. Organized in 1924 to provide swimming and other sporting activities, Martin’s Dam has retained its founder’s original “old swimming hole” atmosphere. On approximately 40 beautifully landscaped acres, sporting activities now include swimming, diving, tennis, platform tennis, basketball, fishing, ping pong and picnicking.

Whether competing in one of our many organized activities or simply watching the action, Martin’s provides a warm and welcoming environment. We are primarily a Swim & Tennis facility; our spring season begins on April 1st for tennis, the pool opens on Memorial Day and closes the weekend following Labor Day. Although the tennis courts close at the end of October, platform tennis runs from September through March. To coordinate these activities, we are fortunate to have a fully trained professional staff with the knowledge, dedication and experience that will ensure a safe and pleasurable experience for all of our members and their guests.

For more detailed information on the various programs, social activities and membership, please click on the appropriate Activity link.

As with the club itself, the Martin's Dam website is a product of the members input, thoughts, ideas and efforts. If you have feedback to enhance this site, please contact the Appropriate Website Department.
